Pig Racing

Our Pig Racing is an attraction for young and old and brings a smile to everyone’s face! Especially when it all goes a bit pear shaped, but this is all part of the fun. The pigs don’t always behave on the day!

We generally work with 20 pigs, which can range in size dependant on what we have in stock at the time. Each display consists of 5 heats with 4 numbered pigs in each heat. The track runs from our livestock trailer to two holding pens at the end of the race track. The pigs will run to feeding which will be run down the track ahead of them by our assistant. Sometimes she is overtaken! At the end of the 5 heats the loosing pigs run back up to the trailer and then we have our ‘Grand Pig Finale’ with the winners of each heat competing against one another in the Final, also running back to our trailer.

We usually set up in the show/event main ring using one side as part of our race track. Ideally, we need around 40-80 metres for the track plus space for a 4x4 and livestock trailer at one end. The race track is fenced both sides with chicken wire (supplied by us) and is supported by stob’s and the finish pen is set up with sheep gates (approx. 14). Previous events have had the stob’s and sheep gates available for us to use but we can also bring those if required. We also need access to the main ring with a 4x4 and livestock trailer. We offer a £50 discount for shows or events who have the race track set up for us.

We encourage that the general public are allowed into the main ring so that the public are at either side of the pig race track. This allows everyone to see them more closely. The pigs will be spray numbered pre-event with marker spray. We can number them 1-20 in the same colour spray. It will be random numbers in each heat, not necessarily in numerical order. We take around 30 mins to set up and display will last approximately 20-30 minutes (dependant on the length of track). All the work really goes on before hand training the pigs to run at home on our farm.

If your show commentator is game to get involved in doing a running commentary of our display that is ideal, but we can supply someone if not but there would be an additional cost for this. We cannot do commentary and organise pigs at the same time. Our pig racing display does offer an opportunity for you show or event to make some money with betting on pigs. However, you would need to organise this in advance as gambling does have to be on your Entertainments licence. We can explain a really simple way to do the gambling on the pigs.

We hold a Licence for Performing Animals.
